For a while the business did just OK. Sometimes less than OK. There were times when the sales didn’t keep up with the bills, forcing me to triage them to determine whom I could pay and whom I couldn’t. I paid my employees first and myself last (sometimes not at all).

I experienced all the emotions as a franchisee early in my journey. On the good days, I felt elation, and during the low times, I felt total despair.

Above all, it was a huge struggle to achieve consistency with growth in the business, and I knew that THIS was something I needed to solve if I was going to make the business a success.

My background as a motivational speaker did empower me with one thing that would change everything - curiosity. I really wanted to know what it would take to make my franchise successful, not just for the money, but for the knowledge. That meant experimenting and taking risks. I needed to SERVE our customers and community better than anyone and create emotionally satisfying experiences that they couldn’t help but talk about and want to repeat.

Once I started applying these strategies through my own proprietary method, the business took off.
Sales increased as did our rankings. Often, we were number one out of more than 100 locations in California. We won the “Best Customer Service” and “Manager of the Year” awards out of more than 1,000 locations worldwide. Then we acquired one of the lowest performing Edible Arrangements in the state and made it profitable within a year.

I cracked the code on what it takes to make a franchise operation prosper and continued running the business for ten years. Soon other franchise systems wanted me to speak to their franchisees about how to get the same results. Ultimately the demand for my speaking, coaching and training meant it was time to sell.

Since then I’ve given presentations in all 50 U.S. states and throughout the world with franchise clients that include McDonald’s, Great Clips, GNC, RE/MAX, Smoothie King and countless others.
